My 2011 CX-9 needs some anti-freeze in the reservoir. It says to use FL22 coolant. Is this a Mazda specific coolant? I have seen in other threads that some people have used other long life coolants. Are there any other coolants that are safe to use with the CX-9? The Mazda FL22 seems kind of expensive.

 

The FL22 coolant is a long-life coolant, 10yrs / 250,000kms.
If it only needs a small amount you can add de-mineralised water, which will slowly mix with the rest of the FL22 as it flows in & out of the resivour. What size bottles do they sell FL22 in where you are?

 

It was $31 for 1 gallon at Amazon. It is at the low line in the reservoir. How much is it usually at Mazda dealers? Any other cheaper alternatives?

 

When the engine is cold, the coolant level should be at the low mark. When are you checking it?

 

It is just below the low mark when engine is cold. I will check again with hot engine.
