Best rooftop carrier box for stock crossbars?
I’m new to the whole rooftop box scene. I know, I know, they’ve been around a long time. I just got the OEM/Mazda crossbars for my 2014 CX-9 but now want to find a good rooftop carrier box that won’t break the bank. Any suggestions for brands that will fit these flatter bars? What’s worked for you? Do they have adequate space? Looking to buy soon. Thanks!
Pick the list of boxes that meet your needs and budget, then see how the attachments will fit your car. I think all the brands are about equally good; some are more convenient that others, and that's up to you. A broad flat Thule works for me for hauling skis--what size and shape will work best for you?
For fit, measure the distance from the back crossbar to the lip of the open lift gate, then consider the position of the attachment on the box. Likely all will fit, but check this before you buy. Check craigslist as well--there might be some bargains.

I have a 2017 CX-9 GT and Added a Thule Motion XT L as I have 7.0 clearance in my garage but huge hassle taking it off and storing it. I am using the original roof rack which is more costly but reduces the noise. The more expensive Thule one is noisier but is more versatile with types of roof boxes you can use. I must also mention that I have a bias towards OEM as a former Mazda employee.
