I am in need of a second remote(and key) for a 2012 CX9. Can someone explain the steps for me to get another one?

You could go to the dealer and they'll sell you a remote and program it probably for several hundred dollars... or you could call a mobile locksmith and confirm that they can program keys for your car (year/make/model) and just have them come to the house and do it for cheaper. It's still over a hundred dollars though. That's how I did it when I bought my used 2019 CX-9. You can either buy the key from the locksmith and have him program if, or do what I did and which is purchase my key online ahead of time to save a little money, and then have him come out and program it. I bought the nice key that opens the trunk as well. they're cheaper keys out there without the trunk button on the fob.
