Default 2022 CX-9 Mazda Update Toolbox- Connection Error 104

Hi, I just got this CX-9 and went to install the Navi update toolbox on my Win 7 desktop at home. I did a test and tried it at work (Win 10) and it works fine. I would much rather to this at home!

As soon as I open up the program it looks for updates and immediately issues a Connection Error 104 message. It cannot find an internet connection but I have no such issues on this computer. Its compatability with Win 7 is documented. Has anyone else seen this error??

I called Mazda and they are like...... "whaaaaa?". So, I emailed the third party company that provides the software (in Hungary). Since their support drop down menu did not inlcude the Toolbox, it may not be supported. We'll see. I just hope they have the class to respond in any event.

Best wishes, Larry

Sadly, not one reply. The 3rd Party is a company called NNG, based in Europe, it appears.

Exclamation Old version on download link?

Hungary, sure, that's the ticket. It's either Czech or Hungarian.

It seems the server has relocated, and you needed to have been running and apply an update in a narrow window. The download might be the old download. In any case there may be *sanctions* now, so payment is getting harder, firstly in EUR only and now it it is quite hard to pay at all.

Basically they need to update the download on the website to the latest version, rather than relying on an update after the fact. If the earlier servers are gone, there is no way to upgrade, you had to have had this running c. 3 years ago. They could use DNS CNAMES or redirection. It is genuinely a worry.

mckenzm, I won't pretent to understand all of what you said. But, In other words, forget the web. I checked with Parts and Service at the dealer and they are clueless about any kind of update software or method. I was only told that the 2022s have the latest version. I am ready to give up. I thought Mazda was ahead of the curve with updating the Nav maps but I think I jumped the gun and expected FAR too much.

Sometimes I think their consumer relations manual came from Yugo.

OK, lately I have had to create a new account to get maps and online services for a third vehicle, but you are stuck on the internet connectivity.
I get this too on completely new installs.
One think you might try is to download "Mazda Update Toolbox", it's the wrong one, but it will tell you and give you a link to a "good" download.
Otherwise, Windows 10 if you are using Windows. There is no way I could get this working on Windows 7, it may even be a TLS or certificate issue.
I'll try again this week on something that is not working, and see if I can get a definitive answer.

Well, the Win7 thing answers my immediate issue with the Toolbox download refusing to load, though it says that Win 7 is cool. Never got a link to another download, IIRC. It's been a little while.

Maybe I could try it at work on their Win 10 computer. If I wanted to make a clone in case I corrupt the original, is that doable?? Its just a std SD card?

Angry Mazda Toolbox problem

I have a Mazda CX-30 and used the tool box in January 22. I purchased GPS updates for 3 years and I think around $290 and not a happy camper when I got the same error message.
I finally got my dealer in AZ to get me a contact number to the third party ((800-430-0135)) a man answered was nice and requested I send him a snapshot of the error (104 etc) which I did at support@mazdahandsfree.com.
That was a several days back since then I sent 2 more email asking how to fix the problem thinking it's on my side and to-date nothing.
Now reading the posts I see it's their problem and hoping it gets fixed soon or I'm out of my last years GPS update. Mazda should get on this ASAP.

Frustrating. I sense that Mazda could care less. I went to the Mazdahandsfree website and they ask for your vehicle details. They are so committed to this that they don't even offer 2022 or CX-9 as choices! Website is not being updated. They list Windows 7 as compatible but apparently that is not true. They asked you for an image of the error message, as it they had never seen it before, right? They may actually not update the nav at all. The dealers I have talked to knew nothing about updating the nav, toolbox app, etc. Thanks for posting.I look forward to hearing about your future experience with this issue. One can hope. My dealer suggested that I forget the nav and just use Apple.

Default Toolbox Update Window 7

If toolbox works on Windows 10 at your workplace buy not on your home Windows 7 machine it could be your PC. Microsoft support for Windows 7 ended 3 years ago.
I have toolbox running and doing updates on my Windows 11 PC without a hitch.
If you don't want to update your PC perhaps your boss will agree to let you use your work PC, updates don't take long and only have to be done once or twice per year.
