2020 CX9 Transmission Fluid Change
Hi Guys and Gals, I tried searching the forums but couldn't find an exact answer. I am looking to change the transmission fluid on my 2020 CX9 that currently has about 65k miles. My questions are:
1. Does anyone know how many quarts I need? I am only looking to drain and fill. As it has not had it done yet.
2. I am looking to use Aisin MFZ fluid. Anyone see any issue with that?
3. Is it safe to say I just put in the same amount that comes out? Assuming the fluid coming out is at room temperature or let it sit until it gets to room temperature, the same as the new fluid.
Any suggestions appreciated. I will be doing the front and rear differential fluids as well. For that I already bought the Royal Purple 75w-90 GL4 fluids.
Thanks.

do not go by the service manual…the amount varies depending on several factors
Draining only the pan for the first time is not the best service. A pan removal cleaning and filter replacement is the better service. At 65 k miles you are going to have a lot of pan cleaning and valve body wiping .
My recommendation is Castrol ATF
do not go by replacing what you moved amount , follow a normal oil replacement procedure to fill close the the amount and then use the proper way to check the ATF level. It is not the same process as engine oil
Royal purple is a good choice for the differentials
Have at least 5 quarts

The color from your service work will not be BLUE any longer. So actually, using ATF with conventional RED dye coloring will help you better read the ATF so you will get a better indication when to at least do a simple pan fluid change. While I do not support the dilution method of changing and eventually replacing the complete transmission fluid it has its benefits of changing the almost all the blue dyed ATF to a slightly dark RED which is generally easier to read and evaluate the ATF.
You will understand this better when you clean your pan.

Also I have like 4 gallons of Valvoline Multi Vehicle ATF here. Looks like that is compatible as well. I stock these because both of my kids' Lexuses use Toyota WS and they have been running excellent with this Valvoline. So could I just use that?
Well I can only advise what I personally use what we predominantly use for clusters transmission and and know works very well fact supported by oil analysis.
Will other ATF work sure , will it works as good difficult for any to say because of options and one real testing and even less empirical facts from oil analysis.
I also know through experience that adding it or only doing a pan filter service will never cause issues .
Aisin is a well known for developing automatic transmission and as such they have their own formulas for ATF . I have used it and occasionally we use it in the shop. But I can say with facts or any usage that it is any better the other brands ? So choosing it you are unlikely to have any problems from its use.
