Default 2010 CX-9 problems

Hello zoom zoom enthusiasts, I’m shopping around for a new car and I came across a fully loaded 2010 CX-9 Grand Touring with all the bells and whistles (remote start, heated seats, blind spot, etc) and have a few questions about them. The car has 86k miles on the odo

1. How rampant are water pump failures where the coolant leaks? From what I heard the 2010 model was especially annoying to replace a water pump and they made it easier for the following model year.

2. Transfer case issues are a known flaw with the CX-9 though it was covered under an extended warranty, how would I go about changing the fluid in the case? More often than what the manual recommends?

3. During this time Mazda was owned by Ford or had a partnership really, how do older Mazda’s from the time with Ford held up with age?

Thank you all zoom zoomies c:

I've only ever seen one CX-9 come thru my dealership for a water pump.

PTO ( Correct name for the transfercase) are a common failure on the older CX-9s. @ 89,000miles you should be ok, however get the oil changed ASAP.

Lifespan is good.

How often are the water pumps bad on the older CX-9s? Should it be a point of contention? I know there’s a possibility bricking the whole engine if not caught quickly because of it being in the engine block itself?

As I said, above, I've been working on Mazda's for 15yrs, only seen 1 CX-9 water pump fail/leak.

Unless CX-9s in the USA use a different water pump / engine as Japanese- Australian - New Zealand versions, its a non event/concern.
