Would you replace the turbo on a 2008 CX-7 with 185k miles
I have a CX-7 that my daughter is driving. It has a very serious oil leak that I'm told is coming from the turbo. The leak is so bad that it's leaving puddles of oil, not just stains now and she is having to add oil to it almost daily. I really want to get it fixed while she's home from school break but I won't be able to do it myself due to a demanding work schedule for the next 6-weeks. I'm afraid to wait much longer to fix the leak and likely failing turbo as it I'm afraid it will leave her stranded somewhere.
I'm assuming that any shop will only install an OEM turbo that would run the bill up into the mid $2000 range.
So the car's in excellent shape otherwise. Given the current price of used cars it may be worth spending this much on it.
Any advice?

Well, you are sort of answering your own question? First used vehicles are getting premium pricing right now. So, your MAZDA is worth $$. You may look into buying a rebuilt Turbo with a warranty and then shop for a mobile mechanic in your area and price compare to a general service shop. Normally I don't recommend mobile mechanics but our economy and how things are being run in the Goverm***...... u know there are many highly skilled and certified auto technicians who are doing the mobile mechanic "gig" right now.
That's a good idea on the mobile mechanic. I usually do the work on about everything I own so I've never used a mobile mechanic and didn't think of that. Thank you for the idea. Off to google now for mobile mechanic in my area.
