Default Turbo

Hey guys, Im new to the forum and in need with some knowledge. I have a 2010 Cx-7 and recently it died on me. I had a whining sound coming from the engine followed by white smoke. The vehicle idles but still produces smoke and then when I/m able to drive it, it stalls and barely has any go. Came to the conclusion thats it is the turbo. My question is can I replace the turbo with a 2007 turbocharger, as well as anyone have any knowledge on how to repair or replace the turbo.

Thanks

White smoke normally means the engine is burning coolant.
Most the time when a turbo fails, the smoke is from oil getting past the turbo seals and being burnt, this is a blue tint smoke.

Pull the air inlet from the turbo and check for shaft play, a very small amount of up/down is ok.

If it moves in/out the journal bearings in the turbo are shot, if the compressor wheel has made contact with the compressor housing, then it could have junked the wheel and housing.

Thanks for the insight, when I had it at the dealership they confirmed that the shaft was extremely loose. How easy is it to get to the turbo? No shop just my garage.
