Default Timing Chain question

I have an early 2007 CX-7. I am rebuilding the engine and in doing so, I ordered a new VVT and timing chain kit. I noticed the VVT sprocket matches the chain design and pitch, but the exhaust, crank, and oil pump sprockets are a different design. Did Mazda change the chain design? The chain I received with the kit is more of a traditional chain style where the sprocket teeth are visible through the chain. The original design looks more like multiple individual steel plates notched for the sprockets and sandwiched together. The sprocket teeth are not visible when the chain is riding on top of the sprocket. I searched the web for several hours and didn't find much. I really appreciate any advice.

Thanks,

Jim
