I think the CX7 has one too, but you have to take off the fuel tank to change it.
Which is a p*#s poor design on Mazda's part.
I did see a video of a guy who went 300K before he changed his fuel filter.
It was real dirty, but his car was still running fine.

It is actually a very good design, hence the fact virtually every manufacturer in the world does/did it that way. Just because a filter is dirty in no way means it isn't doing its job or needs changing.

We're going to have to disagree on this one; since the fuel filter was meant to last for the life of the vehicle, then putting it in the tank discourages someone from messing with it.

Since you gave bad advice on this thread, I am suspect on your advice on other topics.

There are at least 7 oils that meet the specs for my vehicle.
JWS3309 is a standard that the fluid must meet which is in my owner's manual.
Castrol Import Multi-Vehicle Fluid
Toyota T-IV
Mobil ATF 3309
NAPA - AIC ATF0T4
AC Delco T-IV
Ford - XT-8-QAW Premium Automatic Transmission Fluid
AISIN - ATF-0T4
All meet the standard (the Toyota, Mobil, Delco and Ford are all the
same Mobil 3309 just badged for those companies)

Defend Mazda? Hardly. As for my research, I'm an engineer and have worked for three different automobile manufacturers; I have a pretty good basis for the recommendations I've made. That said, you've come to your conclusion, so I'll bow out from here on in; have fun replacing your fuel filter.
