Default Do I need a new A/C Receiver Dryer?

Hi all,
My first post here! Woohoo.

My 2007 CX-7's A/C started blowing warm air a couple of weeks ago so I took it into my local repair shop today. They found a leak in a line near the compressor so they need to replace that. Cool. They are saying though that since they're going to 'open it up', the Receiver Dryer needs to be replaced as well, or it will be contaminated by the other part being repaired.

The shop is saying that their supplier will only warrant the line part if they also replace the Receiver part at the same time. They say the part alone costs $120.

Does this make any sense to anyone? It seems unnecessary to me.

Thanks for any advice.

i agree with the shop. if it is leaking, the drier is already fubar. when open to atmosphere, the drier can become contaminated in like 20 minutes

Thanks keninn. Just because I'm not familiar with these parts -- I have no idea what the receiver actually does -- what is it about the receiver that gets messed up when exposed to the air? My shop said that since the A/C is normally a sealed system, anytime it gets opened up, such as by a leak like you said, bad things happen to the parts. Doesn't that mean that all of the parts should be replaced now?

I should have said earlier, I like this shop. They've done favors for me in the past. I just want to understand this better.

Thanks!

Edit - Never mind. I found some older posts here where others explained what the receiver does and why it should be replaced along with any other repairs. I'm cool now. Thanks for the help!
