Just went thru my first tank of gas on my new '08 CX-7. The use was 1/2 and 1/2 city and hwy and I averaged 19.7 mpg. There were several hot shoe take offs and high speed passes just to see what the performance was like. I'm so pleased with my new CX, my brother has one and I drove it and really liked it.

Sounds about right on your mileage.

I am hoping the CAI will help mileage. But my wifes foot will not let me find out! I need to get a tank though without her driving.

Here is an update...

second tank of gas, bout 40% hwy, 60% city posted 19.7mpg, on regular unlead

third tank of gas, nearly 100% hwy, with some hills, just a tick of 23mpg

Man, I'm so stoked, a car that looks like this, drives and runs as great as it does and 23 on the highway...all at 70+ I don't drive real hard, but I never drive like 65. I've got to get one of those CAI's

Hope you all are enjoying your CX7 as much as I am...8 days and nearly 1000 miles...

Can you convert the 2.3 Turbo MPS engine to run on LPG?

I have just completed 250 miles in a 24 hour test drive of the CX-7.
I did a reasonable mix of driving, and covered about 170 miles of sustained motorway miles.
I returned an overall average of 22.7 mpg.
The drive and experience was truely exceptional. Enough to try and find out if anyone has converted this engine to LPG.

Already over 2 months with this nice and sporty vehicle. The fuel efficiency improved a little bit....just a little...now I'm able to drive 420 km on a tank (city drive). I just contacted the dealer and the best expectations will be 500 km on a tank of gas. Unfortunately I'll void the warranty if I'll modify the exhaust or CAI system. Great car overall I'm really happy...even the gas will jump again this summer to $1,5 /liter

I bought my 2008CX7 Grand Touring AWD back in Oct. 2007 and have gotten terrible mileage since. I realize it's a heavy 4 cylinder but the EPA's MPG is way off unless you drive 60 mph on the highway, 5 mph less than the speed limit. I drove from Pitt. PA to Albany NY and got 22 mpg but that's becasue i was in a blizzard and could only safely drive between 55 and 60. I've made the same trip a few times and the average mpg on the highway is about 16 to 17 mpg driving about 75 to 78 mph, not even close to 22 as the epa states, and if the bikes are on top of the car it's aboput 14 mpg highhway. City mpg is about 12 to 13 mpg so needless to say I'm a little put off by the mileage and won't be buying another mazda.

I purchased a new 2008 GT on 12-3 and other than coming home, it was driven on a rather lengthy trip. On the highway I achieved 19 mpg and in the city I was getting 16. I'm disappointed in the numbers for what under the hood but it is fun to drive.
