Default correct oil type 2007 Mazda cx 7

Had timing chain issues. Fix at the shop set us back $1400.0 they changed the oil also. the car started making noises, and white smoke. took back to the shop and learned that the Mazda cx7 now needs a new turbo. After a lot of research, I learned that the shop put the wrong oil in it. they used synthetic unread of regular factory recommended 5w30. The shop is investigating the issue but in my opinion, they should pay for the new turbo since they are the ones who screwed up and put the wrong oil in my Mazda. I never had issues in the past and our regular oil service provider said that he would send over our records to the repair shop. the repair shop said he was 99% sure that my car took synthetic but I told him that he is 100% wrong. what are ny legal options. the repair shop is charging me $1500. Ouch. This vehicle is critical for ny family.
