2007 Mazda CX7 with about 111000km's.

Had the CEL and AT light come on and the transmission was stuck in 3rd. Pulled over and turned off/on the vehicle - and both lights still on, and would only drive in third.

Next morning drove it to my mechanic - CEL light still on. But no AT light (and it was shifting ok). Mechanic pulled codes :P0998 Switch Solenoid F Control Circuit Low and P0997 Switch Solenoid Circuit Range/Performance. He reset the codes and also said the battery was at low end of performance and maybe that could be the issue. Told me to keep driving it and see if it comes back on.

Well, today it came back on. Exact same scenario.

So my question(s) are: Is this a simple fix? How much/how many hours am I looking at? Could it be part of a bigger issue (the actual transmission)?

The car owes me nothing - having bought it new in 2006. And it was a terrible car with timing chain replaced at 90k km... and misc other stuff. There's a reason they don't make this model anymore. Just need to decide if I should spend money on it or move on..
