With the correct length USB cable, the phone can be placed anywhere in the vehicle and why wouldn't that include all places commentors have mentioned?
Let's look at the relevant part of his post: "I find it to be an afterthought because it doesn'’t even fit the tray in the center console you kinda just drop it in or put it in the cup holder."
So.... he is saying the phone doesn't have an obvious place to go after being connected - right? I don't know what it is with you looking to argue all the time.... It's pretty obvious what the OP was asking about.

I like Cali's solutions above too. The clip I linked above really is a great solution as well. Because it is designed so well, it does not attach to the vents themselves(it attaches around the hazard button) and does a great job keeping the phone secure (especially if you use the basket mount).

I actually ordered two different wireless AA dongles yesterday as they are finally down to a reasonable price IMO (~$50). It will hide in the center console and hopefully work well.

Sounds good to me...
I saw that coming because one of them has been logging on and first trolling my past responded threads. We both know who that was.

I would suggest looking in the mirror and you'll find your answer

- Phone goes in the console above gear selector - sideways of course - but the cable is an issue which gets in the way of poorly located cup holders - regardless - 95% of why I love the cx5 is its driving characteristics - The infotainment setup is confusing - so I just drive

Nice to see another owner putting their phone in the space it appears to be designed for.
Yeah, the cord "can be" a pain but you can easily hide it under the console trim.
I actually took the time to drill some small holes with a Dremel tool.
One in the console and one in console space forward of the shifter.
My USB cable and stereo plug cable go through the holes and under the console lip.
No wires to be seen accept a couple inches in the forward console space when the phone is not plugged in.

.
There are also retractable USB cables that can work very well in some circumstances.

I've been happy with this one
Amazon Amazon
It clips into place between the center vents and stays put unlike normal vent mounts.

It is a nice looking piece but really placing it over the HAZARD activation button???

Not the smartest vendor offering an accessory???

Enough room to get your finger in there; but realistically how many times have you used the hazards over the last few Years? It was a tradeoff I could accept but of course others may not; unlike traditional vent mounts that I have used in rental cars it has stayed in place on the bumpy dirt road to our vacation house in Maine so that is a major plus to me. Edit: it does not interfere with the operation of the hazard switch it sits above it with a cutout for the button.
