Default Unable to lock vehicle once shut off.

My 2014 CX-5 is having the following happening when I put it in park and press on/off button to shut off the car. It shows orange in the push start button and a warning chime goes off with a small red vehicle symbol on dash. I am unable to lock vehicle manually or with the remote when this happens.
Often times I have to drive around the block and come back to see if will stop doing that. It’s becoming so frequent I’m very concerned as I cannot lock the car.
i am also think this drained the battery in one instance.
Anyone else heard of these issues? Husband is a technician and is stumped.

Common for the gear position sensor in the gear lever assembly to play up.

Part number is for a RHD vehicle, not sure if its the same part for LHD.
