Type of motor oil (change)
Hello everyone,
I have a 2.0l manual CX5 from 2012, with approximately 180,000 km.
I have bought it at 170,000 km and the dealership I went to did the oil change with 5W-30 oil.
My question is, what type of oil should I go for next time?
The technical manual gives 2 options: Supra 0W-20 or Ultra 5W-30, but doesn't say in what case to choose one over the other...
I have emailed to Liqui Moly to ask the same question and they reccomended Leichtlauf Hightech 5W-40.
And now I am confused.

Welcome to the forum.
I would first see what is available to you for your area.
Then you can choose a full synthetic oil (preferred but semi synthetic will work)
You may want to look at what the upcoming temperatures will be this winter in your country/
Then go to a general oil chart and pick a muti viscosity that will work for the engine operating the engine in the temperature range of your country.
Or you can make it easy and use 0W20 for the upcoming winter months and decide later if necessary to change oil viscosity for the summer months?
Auto manufacture oil recommendations are based on the most popular area that any given platforms are intended to be sold. That is why they call it recommendation and not required when looking at the recommended oil to use.

As for the factory service recommendations they were set up for the first 100k miles after which the better choice is to use an oil chart based on operating temperatures and specifications of the oil. Once out of warranty of it is better to choose parts and service that fit the operating environment and not to simply keep to the schedule for warranty purposes. This should translate to more frequent oil and filter services and more preventive maintenance.
