Tranny fluid coolant mix but external tranny cooler?
So I bought my 2014 Mazda CX-5 2.0 l last January 2022 had it less than a week and the engine light came on took it to Mazda several times the third time it wound up being the heater core which I tried to tell them was the issue all along. Took it up to have it serviced they told me it would take 3 days but I could not get a rental car so I got it back in less than 24 hours. A year later almost to the day that they fixed the heater core, mind you I have put $40,000 miles on the car Tennessee North Carolina freezing weather. The car starts to not blow Heat after running for over 45 minutes. I took it back up there mileage voided warranty on the heater core, I drove it less than 12 miles from the dealership and it ran hot. When it ran hot this is what i found. Dont look good
so I removed thermostat and flushed with chemical flush and water multiple times and I noticed in sunlight it turns purple Was carmel brownish when it came out but in sunlight it turned colors, many people told me it was oil however not missing any?!
Meanwhile a few weeks b4 this happened I noticed what seemed like TCS issues, loosing traction randomly and barking tires while in full motion. Needless to say after all the flushing of coolant system, my tranaxle just quit all at once. Took apart got to ridiculous tranny dipstick and this is what I found.
same as what's in my entire coolant system, motor god only knows what else. My question is with the tranny cooler being separated from radiator, how this happened. Just tranny cooler failure or thermostat housing itself or possibly (who know cause Mazda won't tell) where coolant and fluid come close contact? This car has been remarkable dependable and I love Madzas in general. Any input greatly appreciated!!!
General service answer: Mazda coolers have both the engine coolant and transmission fluid running through it. It is actually a heat exchanger not really what we would call a "cooler". Depending of the transmission health prior to the "cooler" failing or the o-rings leaking?
the transmission can be flushed and saved. The service at this point MUST be done with a shop having a Transmission service machine NOTHING else will work at this point to do it completely and correctly.
