Default Thinking about buying 1st gen CX-5

I'm thinking about replacing my 2010 Mazda 3 S sedan with a 1st gen CX-5, probably in the 2013 - 2015 model years. I've heard online reviewers say that the 2.0L engine in the 2013 and Sport versions of other years feels underpowered, so I'm leaning more toward a Touring or Grand Touring in the '14 - '15 years.
My main concern about buying another Mazda is reliability. My 2010 Mazda developed a problem with the catalytic converter shortly after I bought it, and I'd rather not go through that again. Has anyone had that problem with their 1st gen CX-5? Are there any other big/expensive issues with this model I should know about?

I'm also considering the 2012 - 2014 Honda CR-V, since I've had good luck with Hondas I've owned in the past, but reviewers tend to think that the CX-5 is more fun to drive than the CR-V. I haven't driven either SUV yet myself.

Our 2014 CX5 GT has been trouble free since purchase. We did replace the brakes on it at 45,000, but my wife tends to ride them a bit at times.

Th CX-5 is virtually bullet proof. As usual, complete service history and pre-purchase inspection is a must.

Only item that shows up on Consumer Reports is interior electrical. Bullet proof otherwise.

We just got a 2014 CX-5 Sport for one of our kids. I would agree that the 2.0L is a little underpowered. Now as a parent, I'm perfectly good with that for a 16-year old. It's got enough pep to pass on the interstate when needed but they won't be drag racing anyone or getting themselves into trouble.

One of the things that attracted me to the CX-5 were good reliability ratings and excellent crash test ratings (especially on 2014 and newer models made after October 2013). I think you'll enjoy the car if you go with Touring or Grand Touring.
