Default Text Messages Sometime Don't Play

I have a 2019 CX5 Sport.

I've been having this problem for quite a while. I have my phone linked to the infotainment system. When I get an incoming text message, a notification shows up on the screen asking if I want to read it. I press that I do. About half the time it works, and the message plays through the sound system. But half the time it fails and asks if I want to try again. Trying again always fails.

What do I need to do to make this to work more consistently?

It might be your phone. With my old phone, this would not work at all, but it would tell me there were messages. If I looked at what was supposed to be read, they were all emails, not texts. With my new phone, the system seems to be working properly. You have a newer vehicle than mine, so I can't help you with the vehicle setup, but this is a factor you may wish to investigate along with the vehicle setup.

I having this problem long ago, solution was to remove phone from system, restart HMI and restart phone and pair again, haven't had issues since. (Android)

Make sure your infotainment software is up to date.
