LOL, thanks for the update.

Side (and possibly snide) thoughts: Comments like the above make me wonder what all the hype is surrounding autotragic transmissions. For my part, unless the car has three pedals under the dash, it ain't going into my garage.

I doubt Miriam Webster likes your word but I do. I guess I agree with you but still, I haven’t driven a stick since age 18 or 19, and that was a little over 50 years ago.

LOL, I was forced to give up cars with three pedals from about 2005 through 2009 and hated every minute of it. I started driving manual cars back in 1977 and get really annoyed when I travel and have to rent a car with a self-shifting mechanism; make me feel like a passenger, even when I'm sitting in the front left seat.

That said, I understand the day of the manual transmission is coming to a close, I just hope to procure enough cars with manuals to last the rest of my life. I figure I have maybe 20-30 years of driving left, so I'd better start stocking up.

Congratulations! I’m currently where you were a week ago... having test driven my first Mazda ever — CX-5 GT. Need to go back next week and take both NA and a Turbo out for a spin.

Currently considering CX-5, CR-V and Rogue.

My wife just traded in her 205,000 mile BMW (bought new in 2003) for a 2019 CX-5 GT Deep Crystal Blue/Parchment with the Premium Package (love those ventilated seats) and 9 year Mazda extended warranty. We were going to get a BMW X1 but they are in sales hold due to B Pillar safety recall, and now actually glad since she loves the CX-5 and it was about $10k less expensive than the X1 she wanted.

We spent more time reading tests and driving cars than I think we ever had in previous purchases, and the CX-5 was hands down the winner (for us) even compared to some we drove that were much more expensive. She said the Honda was "adequate" but not much fun to drive and I agree, but hard to go wrong with Honda and it holds more cargo. Rogue seemed pretty unrefined to us. The interior in the GT is very nice and equal or better than any of the much more expensive cars we drove.

Default My Test Drive

I did my first test drive in 19 years yesterday. It was a lot of fun to drive the CX-5 Touring after many years of driving my Sport Trac. I love my truck but it might be time to move on. I was a little tentative on the unfamiliar curvy road, but if I were comfortable it would have been FUN! Husband tested out the cruise on a four-lane road that goes over a mountain and there was no obvious shifting or over-revving as happened in the Rav4 that we were riding in for the day. The downhill side of the mountain held at 57 mph without any trouble. Fit and finish were great. The back seat got comfort approval from a passenger. I tend to keep vehicles for a long time, 14 and 19 years on the last two, so the details matter to me. I might just stick with TomTom or compatible apps instead of the nav system.
