Should I get Turbo or Non Turbo?
Congrats. Turbo or non-turbo, you can't go much wrong with the CX-5. Looking at all other competitors, price/benefit/look aspects are all better IMO
I've decided to buy a 2022 CX5. I've done extensive reading through different forums on the pros and cons of Turbo vs non Turbo. Now it comes to only one aspect - RELIABILITY. I'm aware of the cylinder head crack issue with 2.5 NA and oil/coolant issue with 2.5 Turbos. There's no clear info on whether these issues would appear in 2022 models or not. So, what's your suggestion? Should I go for Turbo or Non Turbo - just from a reliability standpoint alone?
- The real enjoyment for me personally in all my Mazdas , past and present ( 22 Cx-5 Ce na) is the suspension set up and unmatched steering response / feedback - I just love driving as a result - nothing compares for the $$$. Turbo -,ahh - not worth the massive cost differential / when you add , gas , insurance , excess tire / brake wear - and the high potential for tickets and for ME unecessacary passing - I seldom do unless some knot head is surfing the net or inpaired - I rather enjoy low stress driving more and more / suppose its connected to a more conservative attitude towards the cost of maintaining a ride-
Congratulations and I am sure your will be continued happy with your choice for a few years!
After discovering that the NA 2.5 had cylinder deactivation (I think starting in 2018?) I put the 2.5T on my list. I almost purchased a F150 and when I found out that Ford started putting on CD in the venerable 5.0L cayote engine I scratched that engine off my list. I am so disappointed Mazda put this on this outstanding 4 cylinder engine. I kind of understand why a engine manufacturer would CD a V8. But the tiny fuel savings (if any) is not worth having this system on an inline 4 cylinder engine that gets 30mpg. I purchased a turbo just to NOT have CD. But if I HAD to own a car with cylinder deactivation, it probably would be car built by Mazda because I trust their quality.

Good choice, my wife has the non turbo and it has plenty of power for onramps and 80 mph toll roads around here. Other family members with GM and BMW turbos have had so many maintenance issues related directly to turbos I don't have any interest in adding that complication. The CX5 is a great car by many measures but it is not a high performance sports car and you are not going to tow with it, so why bother with the turbo?
CONGRATS-
I pulled the trigger on a 2022 CX-5-NA one month and 2k miles ago -
No regrets- A solid ride , which has surprised us on gas mileage before even being broken in! -Running on 2 cylinders in deactivation mode is a bit more appealing than it was one month ago ...$6/ gallon gas is the highest I have ever seen.
