Default Shorter time between service if mileage is LOW?

We had our 2024 serviced in February. About a week ago, a message came up on our dash that the service was due in 15 days. This was a month early, and as we only do a few thousand miles, I don't see the need to have it done sooner than necessary. We just thought that the tech who input the next service on the car just couldn't count . We phoned the dealer who advised that it was not an error but that the system will require an earlier service if there is lower mileage as there will be less highway driving! Is this true? Seems incredible, but I do not want to invalidate our warranty because of it!

Niot sure what you are asking?

Yes its always better to do a routine service like oil and filter changes before a schedule. Honestly it is to your benefit in the long run if you are keeping the vehcle for 5 years or longer.

BTW city driving is the worst for oil longevity. Along with starting the engine running up to a store before the engine gets completely warmed up to operating perimeters. Shutting it off then shopping and going home. All sort of not so good things start to build up in your engine and transmission effecting things as you get more miles on both.
If you don't like the dealership service reminder in your Mazda set it to your preference but be careful. This will not end the reminders from Mazda or the Mazda dealership however!

Oh I forgot to mention if you choose a normal oil and filter service it will NOT impact the warranty as long as you are close to the regular servicing interval recommendation. I would reconsider answering the question how much city and how much highway miles you do. There is no legal requirement to answer either question. Example you can state all your miles are highway!

We have only done 14000k since Feb last year. I know on our Mazda 6, we had to follow the more stringent Canadian schedule than the US . even though where we live, we have warmer winters than most of the US. With fully synthetic oil , I am happy with going as long as we can safely go with. We live in a small village and most of our driving is along country roads, so not a lot of city or freeway driving. I know some people like to increase their servicing , but I have not heard of it from the dealer?

14000 KM? That is 8700 miles. You should be doing an oil change every 5k miles (8000 KM) per the oil intervals in the US anyway.

We bought it in Feb 2024 and have done a total of 8700 miles since then. We have had it serviced twice since then, last time in Feb this year so it should be due this August, instead , it is saying it should be done this month, after only 5 months.

may I suggest you re-read my last response.
Btw country roads for all intense purposes is considered highway use globally .
Please note I ended that response with ASE.

Normal oil change, according to the owner's manual, is 7500 miles (12K) or 12 months, whichever comes first.
I would point out you can manually adjust the service interval in the settings area of infotainment.

I misunderstood you. If you have driven 8700 miles since February 24 and have done two oil changes you are good. I do mine every 5k with the turbo but also did so with my N/A '19 model. As Lobstah said you could go with either 5k or 7500 miles. Some say "or every 12mths" if you don't drive 5k a year, but personally I change at 5k even if it's over a year.

This is the problem I have. This is the required maintenance for Mazda in the USA. We are in Canada , which requires the 'severe' service, which is 5000 miles and 6 month, presumably because of the weather? Trouble is where we live, we have MILDER winters than most of the USA! (Warmer winters than the average temps of all but twelve US states!) This was the same with our Mazda 6 and we went along with it , as we had to. But now the dealer is saying that because we don't do much mileage, the interval should be reduced to FIVE months! I have never heard of this! Does any one in the US get their mandated interval reduced to ten months because they don't do much mileage ? BTW Callisto, "ASE is an abbreviation that can stand for 104 different meanings, such as Automotive Service Excellence, Adverse Side Effect, or Association for Science Education. See the full list" No wonder I didn't know what this meant until I looked it up !

We are on a vehcle forum we are talking about service information sooo.... one would think ASE would be relative to my responses. And in some 20 years posting on various vehcle related forums you are the first that did not understand or know on a car forum what that is.
No really not be rude its just funny

Maybe to help you out that best thing is to look here?
