Default roof rack
Is it a rip off to have the dealer put a roof rack on or should I just buy it after market?

Mine came with one already dealer attached but without the crossbars. IMHO the Mazda rack does look good on the CX-5 and better then the Thule or Yakima,

I'm also glad ours came w/ the OEM rack. They always usually look better than aftermarket.

Agreed, the OEM stuff look best. I negotiated the roof rails and crossbars into my purchase price.
I've had no problems hauling kayaks, and even figured out how to store the crossbars under the rear seat cushion.

ours came with with roof rack but no crossbars though.. where can we buy cheap OEM crossbars?

The least expensive I have seen are about $99. eBay, Amazon and Medical Center Mazda (online) would be the places to start.

Does anyone know how to remove the factory installed roof rails on the CX-5?

Go to the Med Center Mazda site and look for the roof rails there. Instructions are included for the installation of these things, just work backwards.

We bought ours without the roof rack and decided to add it a few months afterwards. I painted it with black plastic dip (as well as the Mazda logo on the hatch) and it matches the trim perfectly.
