Default Rock on highway blasted hole in my bumper

I had about 2,000 miles on my new CX-5 (automatic, 2 wheel drive), was driving on the highway during a winter storm and heard a loud noise at the front of the car – like a rock hit it. After getting to my destination I saw what happened. It’s almost a perfectly round hole about 1 inch in diameter in the black front bumper.
Is this a design error on Mazda’s’ part? It seems those bumpers should be able to take a rock hitting it… My dealer says there is no coverage for this. Wondering if anyone else has had this issue. If lots of people had the issue maybe Mazda would ‘recall’ the front bumper for tougher one.

Thanks,
\Dave

Same thing happened to me 2 years ago on my Hyundai, had to go through insurance company to get a new bumper. Might want to try to avoid those rocks....
