Replacing differential, can I reuse viscous coupling?
I've got a noise from the rear end. Frequency is speed sensitive, intensity is throttle sensitive. Put the whole car on jack stands and verified it's coming from the differential. Using a mechanical stethoscope, I can hear the noise is coming from the back of the differential, not the coupling. I'm a little strapped for cash right now and will do the repair myself. I'm looking at about $1k for either a used differential/coupling combo or $1k for a new differential and re-use my existing coupling.
If my differential is bad, is the coupling toast as well? Are there any other parts needed to swap the differential without replacing the coupling?
I know if I replace the combo that I'll have to reprogram the ECU, but that seems to be a fairly straightforward swap process.
Sorry, edit for info:
2018 Cx-5 Touring. About 82k miles on the odometer
Any help provided is appreciated.
Thanks!
