Back when we got our 2020 gtr, I had a shop shave the bolsters and add some cushioning foam to the front seats. The oem leather was refitted perfect. We also have full seat covers that add slight padding. Problem solved.

almost ditto but no extra padding. I just had Blue ribbing added but I still use seat protectors.

I was wondering if you had the ability to do a recent back to back comparison. It seems your review is valid. There are many who say the current gen seats are too firm and uncomfortable on long trips. I find them pretty firm myself and I am not a big guy.

Oh great here we go with the "many" wording that is so bad for actually numbers because of so many repeated info on various forums from the same persons.
As for comparing previous years well if you are going to do that please provide Mazda research information that they send out to customers about their Mazda experience and what they liked and did not like.
Contact Mazda USA and good luck with that! lol

Many auto manufacture do change creature comfort amenities like seat firmness or other to what their survey questions poll out to be. So comparing any given year may simply be what those customer inquiries represented and not what Mazda flipped a coin and decided to change from one year to the next or one model trim to the next?

Personally, I like the seats and they are a lot more comfortable than the M60 tank seats and even the M151 seats that I used to have to sit in.

Yeah, my spine can testify they are better than the Single Aircrew Seats mounted on Crashworthy Pallets in the back of a USAF C-141 and C'-130. As the saying goes "brace for impact!"

As I stated before...it's all relative.
I always found this seat very comfortable

Yup!

I have a spare seat with perfect base and foam to get cut down about an inch ,contoured and a softer material for the cover. My days launching a bike in Supercross are now history it does catch up with age. lol

Now I do like a comfortable seat even on the Dirt bikes.

Initially I was disappointed with the firmness of the leather seats in my Grand Touring 2021 CX-5 which I purchased last year. I had driven a 2000 Mazda MPV with leather seats for 21 years prior, and just didn't think to focus on seat comfort when doing my test drives on the CX-5. Fortunately, the seats no longer bother me. I mostly use the car for errands around town. If I use it for a long trip, I may buy a cushion just in case...
