Oil leaks 2022
I took my car in for my oil change and tire rotation today and service tech found some oil had been leaking onto the service panel when it was removed. According to the service tech the oil was noticed on the access panel, the right side of oil pan, the timing cover, and the valve cover. The car has right at 52,000 miles, always serviced at the dealer since new. I was quoted $152.00 to diagnose exactly were the oil was leaking from. I believe the repairs should be covered under my 60,000 mile power train warranty, I didn't think about it may be covered under warranty until I had already left the dealership, I question why the service advisor didn't even bring up that it could be covered under warranty. If it is covered under warranty should I have to pay $152.00 to find were it is leaking from? Anyone else had this issue with these types of oil leaks?
This is NOT a question to ask a forum but to contact your Mazda dealership and ask them!
If you don't like there answer you can contact Mazda USA corp direct.
You are not suppling all the needed information for anyone to give you an accurate answer to this question. And some answers from members will guess without knowing all the facts and state the Warranty basic's .
You may re-read your service invoice again. Either way the oil leak is noted and now part of your service history of your Mazda.
Oil leaks are not uncommon for various years Mazdas and it would be very hard to claim they are related or the same as yours without first knowing where the leak is coming from.
Soooo you are right back at the begining of this response!

Aren't you a service advisor for a dealership or are you at a independent repair shop? I checked my warranty book and if the leaks are were I was told they were coming from it will be covered under warranty. But as a service advisor and knowing what I was told about were the leaks were coming from and knowing that it would be covered under my power train warranty because it was under the 60 month or 60000 mile limited warranty. You then want to charge me 152.00 to diagnose and pinpoint were its leaking and not even bring it up that it should be repaired under warranty? If your a service advisor wouldn't you tell your customer if something is covered under warranty? So from your response that it's not uncommon for oil leaks in various years Mazda's, is this common for my year? And I have already talked to the dealership service department and I will let you know and the rest of the forum the outcome. Thank you for the reply
maybe re-read my response again. There is lots of info inline to help you.
Iam not a service advisor but Iam contracted by a couple of Auto manufacturer to do warranty work if a specific dealership can’t or does not have some with my background .
I know exactly what Mazda Warranty states, and you need to re-read it. But it’s cutting hairs but it does give them an option not to warranty in the Powertrain section. This is where friendlier communication with the dealership will get their help. The point I have posted about this is simple, a dealership is not obligated to do any Warranty work. Dealership are still an independently owned buisness that has a contract with an Auto manufacturer . This means the dealership can state no shirt no shoes being demanding no business and refer you to go to anther dealership.
I would like to read the exact service invoice. You can post it with your personal information only redacted or PM it to me . I think something’s was not clear about what they found and why they were going to charge to find the exact cause and location.I have a thought as to why the “possible” service fee may be the responsibility on you .

There was nothing noted on my copy of the service invoice about the oil leak only that they performed the oil change/filter and a tire rotation.
I was sent a text message with a short video of what the service tech found when doing the oil change along with his recommendations for a fix.
The service advisor also sent me text with other service recommendations that were suggested..new tires, alignment and the cost of diagnosing the oil leak.

Auh so nothing was verified and not even noted the volume of leak if it were even a leak..
WOW!! So we all got enthusiastic over nothing or in this case lack of understand what was written what was told and a video that really is not prof or supportive of anything?

I wish members would STOP calling the person that works on their vehcle at a service department in a dealership a TECH it not accurate in most all cases. The service guy/girl is a better description.
When I read that a TECH work on someone vehcle I know that if the responses is wonky it didn't come from the Auto TECHnician but how the member interrupted it!
The other thing is very few dealership unless they are slow in the service department have their Auto Technicians or certified factory trained mecanic do oil and filter service. LOL
They generally no they DO get a much higher wage then a person just working in the service department. LOL
I would be interested in the video can you please post it?

It sounds like the dealer purposely left it off the invoice so the owner couldn't come back later and ask about it. Hopefully, they kept the video as evidence it happened. I would be asking the dealer about it. If they blow you off, consider going to another dealer and having them inspect the car. You may have better luck at one place over another.
