Default Need Folding Mirror Solution

I have a 2020 CX-5 GTR. Recently the drivers side mirror would not close. I could hear a whirring sound but only partial movement. The dealer told me that this year/model does not have individual repair components and that a new mirror was required. Mirror $374.06, 1hr labor $190. The internet "experts" claim that behind the mirror, water gets past the wire grommet seal and down into the motor causing problems. As per their instructions I sprayed lubricant into that seal waited 30min and it worked. The mirror now ALMOST completely closes. How can i get it to close that last 1/2 inch? What is actually going on? If I eventually have to replace it, there is an excellent video to guide me. But for now, I would like to exhaust other options.

I would just turn off the electric power folding option and leave the mirrors open full time. It's a common issue that does tend to require a new mirror since the gears go bad.

Alexmed2002 after only 4 years and 28,000 miles, I would not expect gears to wear out. The passenger side is fine. How common is this?

It's a very common issue, especially for those of us in the northeast.
