For my piece of mind. 2021 CX5 Carbon Edition
Hi all,
New to the forum and i originally posted this in the Mazda5 thread so sorry for that. Im switching from 2013 accord to CX5 and i guess i just need a little assurance for myself lol. Im looking at a 2021 cx5 carbon edition with 28k miles on it for 28,500. I already drove it twice and its coming from a fairly reputable local dealership. It is certified if that means anything. They did put brand new tires on it as i can see that its new and not the oem tires that comes on these. Exterior is fairly nice with just a couple scratches that they said they will buff up and touch up. Interior is same with couple scuff marks. It just got a new windshield as there was a chip and they told me that when i went and test drove it. The only thing that worried me when driving was the gas pedal seem a little soft. Only way i can explain is that when im coasting and i want to accelerate it took just a bit for it to respond. Besides that no weird noises and comfortable drive and smooth shifting. The warranty that comes with the car is almost over but with it being certified it does add another year or 1200 miles. Also 7 years 100k miles on power train. Should i be worried about the gas pedal? Is this a decent deal? Someone make me feel better about this as this is the most expensive car i've ever bought. I did search through forums and there were some posts about having the transmission learn your driving style by resetting it yourself. There is a video on youtube on how to do it and im guessing i will probably do that once i get the car.

The car adapts to the driver by learning how you drive. The previous owner probably drove the car really easy and didn't floor it much, hence why it felt light to you. This procedure can be reset to learn your driving style. I'm getting the impression that the car was taken care of and is in great condition. The original tires definitely were not gonna pass the Certified Pre-Owned specifications, which is why they replaced them. That's a pretty good price for the non-turbo. Just be sure to look over the car's history with Carfax or something as well.
I would have someone that has a good diagnostic scanner go into the ECU PID and find the pedal %. During live operation acuate the throttle and see it response % vs how much foot angle is changed and then taking your foot off the throttle what the idle speed comparing the throttle angle % is.
If you can get this and post it or have someone experienced check the drive-by function from knowing the test results to make sure it is not the flaw.
If the drive-by wire/throttle pedal component is functioning properly then......read further.
The adaptive from the ECU readjust at every new engine cycle. So if you want to actively change them at the next cold start up drive more aggressively for about 5-10 miles. I am not saying do a RICKIIR RACER just throttle a bit more during stops. This will change them and by the next engine cycle you should feel a difference in throttle response. Mind you it will only be a slight amount, but noticeable.

The turbo was optional that year for that trim. After that they stopped doing the turbo in the Carbon Edition. However, I do think they brought the turbo back as an option in the 2024 Carbon Edition.
