Mixing Transmission Fluids in CX-5?
Ok I have a 2016 CX-5 Grand Touring with 112k miles that I just purchased. As far as I can tell trans fluid has never been changed and we plan to drop the pan and change the oil + filter. I realize this procedure does not remove all the fluid from the trans. I'm considering using Castrol Transmax ATF Universal which meets the Mazda FZ specification but I'm concerned about mixing oils. On a Castrol data sheet I found for their product it said that all the existing oil should be drained from trans and can't guarantee results when mixing oils. Any thoughts on this? Most people in youtube videos I've been watching do use the FZ oil when doing this procedure. Thanks for any help.
Should have included this from the Castrol data sheet....
When performing a transmission fluid change with any Transmax multi-vehicle ATF, Castrol guidance to IWS/quick lubes/transmission specialists is that all measures must be taken to ensure that any existing fluid in the vehicle is removed first. Castrol cannot guarantee performance of mixed fluids. When draining fluid from a transmission, ensure that the entire system is drained as much as physically possible before re-filling with Castrol fluid. Always refer to OEM manuals and maintenance bulletins to ensure that any equipment-specific considerations are kept in mind.

The Castrol is completely compatible with the MAZDA fluid. That said you can add or do the service of pan removal and filter change without concern.
Castrol disclaimer has been the same for at least 60 years.... its not uncommon for any fluid provider to make the same "use of product" statement.
Look even with professional grade Transmission Service Equipment it is impossible to remove 100% of the old fluid in an automatic transmission as it is assembled and in a vehcle.!!!
