Default Mazda Quality I experienced on my 2019 CX-5 GT Reserve

Last month, I traded in my 2019 CX-5 GT AWD (non-turbo) with a 2019 CX-5 GTR (turbo) from a dealer where I bought my 2010 Mazda 3 a long time ago. My new GTR has a huge vibration problem. I felt it a few days after I bought it when I drove on a newly paved (asphalt) expressway. The vibration is felt at high speed (over 45 or 50 mph). I took it to the dealer's service with the vibration complaint. They balanced all the wheels (the guy who balanced the wheels commented that there were no balancing weights on the front wheels!). I drove it again on the newly paved expressway at high speed and I still felt vibration. Due to some personal issues, I was not able to bring it to the dealer right away. Well, after a week, I took it again to the dealer's service for the same issue. They found "Excessive Road force" on the front tires so they replaced the front tires. I test drove it and I can still feel vibration, although not as pronounced as the original shaking of the entire vehicle! I took it back again. This third time, I was issued a CX-9 (stinky with dog droll!) as a loaner because they anticipated that it will be a long diagnosis. I called for status late afternoon that day but they were not able to get to my car because they were "swamped"! I guess they won't treat issues on new cars on high priority because it is 'non-revenue" to them??? Anyway I got a call late the next day that the car is ready to be test driven. This is what they did: "Swapped out the wheels with another new CX-5 in the lot". I test drove it I don't feel the shaking vibration anymore but there is still a sustained vibration at highway speed. It could be that the wheels from the "new CX-5 in the lot" need balancing. I have been to this dealear's service three times and they are not able to resolve my issue so I will not go back to this dealer again! They may not have the expertise/tools to thoroughly diagnose the issue. I know that in order to test for 'Excessive road force", they have to take the wheel(s) to the next door GMC dealership, which is owned by the same company.

While this was going on, I wrote an email to Mazda Customer Experience Center and they opened a Service Request number for me to take my car to another dealer. I had to drive to Arizona so I am not able to deal with this issue for a week. I drove my wife's Soul Red 2019 CX-5 GTR. I enjoyed the drive during this entire trip. The GTR rocks. Zoom Zoom.

I'm back now from my trip so I will take my CX-5 to another dealer so they can look at the issue.

11-Oct-2019 Update:
I took my CX-5 to another dealer yesterday. This dealership is near the newly paved (asphalt) expressway . A senior tech rode with me on the expressway at 60+ mph. He acknowledged that there is a sustained vibration. In the shop, he checked the balance of the wheels. He noticed that there was an excess rubber (he called it "gum") on one of the tires on the wheels that were "swapped" out from another CX-5 on the lot of the original dealership. He shaved the excess rubber off. I asked him if that was from a tire repair - he said no and he said that it is unusual to have something like that on a TOYO tire. Anyway he balanced all the wheels and also rotated them - so now the tires that were replaced by the original dealer's service is now in the rear and the swapped wheels (with the shaved off "gum" on one of the tires) is now in front. We test drove it and the sustained vibration is gone! I will not go to the dealer where I purchased this car again.

I shouldn't have to go through this issue if the vehicle left the assembly line fully checked. Is Quality Control (QC) no longer done on Mazda vehicles? Or is it really the TOYO tires that is to blame?

Default Vibrations

I went through the same issues on my then new 1972 Mustang with 351 Cleveland engine and wide belt fiberglass tires... at highway speeds the tops of the front bucket seats would just shake from the vibrations...long story made short after the "know it all" retired Army Colonel Ford Service Manager shaved the tires, then replaced all four steel wheels, then the drive shaft, which damaged the rear-end pinion bearings during the process, I convinced the assistant service manager to replace those belted tires with a new 1973 Mustang's Michell Radial tires... problem solved... and the dealership owner paid for the four new radial tires.

I hope the other Mazda dealer that I'm going to have my issue diagnosed will be able to fix this issue. It could just be balancing of the wheels. The wheels that were swapped are probably not well balanced.

Did they check the alignment of the wheels as well? Furthermore, over-inflated tires can cause this issue as well. Since the car is brand-new, I would request to test-drive another turbo CX-5 and compare. If it is definitely better, then tell them that you will apply for a lemon-law unless they exchange it for you. This should not happen on a brand-new car.

Thanks mazda_nc_dude. I don't think it is the alignment because it drives on a straight ahead attitude.

As far as driving another 2019 CX-5 GTR (turbo), I drove my wife's Soul Red 2019 CX-5 GTR on my trip to Arizona (it is on a different thread) and that trip was very pleasant. The drive was smooth and I didn't have to shift down/up on hills in MO, NM, and AZ. Check out my other thread on GTR performance and thread on MPG.

Good to know. As I said, I would not let this go. A brand-new car should not have any vibration issues. This should have been detected during quality control.

As Mazda nc dude stated, the tires are usually overinflated on Mazda's lots, be sure to check that as well.
