Default Mazda CX5 Gas

Does anyone else use 91 octane gas or higher for their CX5?

Waste of money; the engine is optimized for regular.

If you want to spend money get the non-ethanol in 87 if they have it. The 89 will not improve detonation, performance or mileage.

Keep in mind the stations in the vast majority of the country do not even offer non-ethanol straight gasoline.

One of the reasons that it costs more. I tend to see it more out west than in the midwest (corn country) or the eastern US. When I see it, I fill up with it. On my last trip to Oregon, I could feel the difference and the Grand Cherokee got about 1.5 mpg better economy with it.

The question is, did that extra 1.5 mpg cover the extra cost of the fuel? FWIW, the difference in fuel economy between unleaded gasoline (E0) and E10 fuel is about 4%, so if your vehicle is getting say 25 mpg on E10, then there is an odds on bet it will get about 26 with E0.

Probably not, but the increased engine responsiveness more than covered it. And the Jeep had been averaging 25, but it got 26.5 on the leg with the E0 so, combined, it was well worth it.
