Default Mazda CX-5 Vehicle System Malfunction

LONG POST BUT PLEASE PLEASE HELP!!!

I am officially at my wits end 😢 I bought this pre-owned 2015 Mazda CX-5 2.2 Akera from a dealership 1.5 years ago and love, love, LOVE her! Didn’t have a days problem until February this year when I sent her in for her 90 000kms service. At the service they performed all the standard : oil and filter changes etc... + did a software upgrade because of a recall released.

Coincidentally, a few days later, after receiving the vehicle back, it came up with this Vehicle System Malfunction fault. I returned the car to the dealer workshop where initially I was told the software upgrade could have glitched so it was reinstalled and the fault cleared. 2nd time same thing. 3rd time I was told to replace a Vacuum Sensor, so I did and fault cleared. A few days later more lights then appeared and disappeared and I was told to replace the exhaust gas pressure sensor, which I did (diagnostics were run everytime I took the car back)... eventually I was told the fuel injectors could be faulty, not working or have a carbon build up and quoted an obscene amount of money to strip the car to check. Ontop of the already huge amount of money I’ve dished out!

I then took my car to 2 fuel injector specialists who ran diagnostics and said there was nothing wrong with my injectors. The second specialists took my car to electronic specialists who ran diagnostics and said the fault was on the camera and ABS modules and because these faults don’t ever affect the performance of my car- they suspected this fault was coming up due to the software upgrade done at the service with Mazda. (More money spent btw)

Off to Mazda I went again and the software spec level from factory has been reloaded on on my vehicle so the car has returned to the same level as before they did the recall software update.... (vehicle set back to “as built factory settings”). I collected my car exactly a week ago and this morning the f$@^%*g fault is back!!!!

Someone has to be able to figure this out. I have copies of all the diagnostics run, an oil analysis (stating fuel dilution) and pictures of all the dash faults and dates they came up - if anyone needs any more info.

PLEASE, there has got to be some genius out there that can solve my problem before I go bankrupt or loose my mind.

What fault codes are you getting? That message is just a generic warning.

I won't be much help regarding your specific issue other than to say that, like the specialist told you, the issue is likely system-related and not due to a physical issue on the car. If it were me, I would ask for the dealer to reimburse any of the replaced parts that were replaced without cause. Unfortunately, since this has been going on since February, I doubt you still have any of the old parts but having an "expert" on your side wouldn't hurt in getting compensation. If you can, get as much in writing from dealer and the specialist to make your case.

Unfortunately worst case scenario is that, like a mobile phone update that causes issues and can't be rolled back, the solution may be to replace the ECU. This is something the dealer may be able to do and let you "try out" before they charge you. Otherwise, I'd pick one up from a wrecking yard and insist they put it in and get it registered to your vehicle. If it were to fix the issue, then you would have one more data point to insist they pay for the previous work done.

The good thing is that it doesn't appear that this is impacting drivability so you're not walking around until it's resolved.

Good luck.

Default Same problem

hello, we have a very similar problem with the same mazda as you. How did you manage to solve the problem?

This model of Mazda has a deep cyle battery and a Q85 battery. This may mean that Q85 battery is getting discharged due to faulty alternator. You can find the entire article in here for your understanding.

Could you take it to another shop? I suggest you read the codes using a good scanner like foxwell. Once battery or alternator problem is detected, you may want to use this article as a guide.

I’m having massive issues with my 2015 GT CX5.. I have the sky active diesel 2.2L engine, is yours diesel?
The symptoms of mine sound very similar but ended up coming under the recall last year, Mazda had the car for WEEKS. Was there a
recall for your model? (You can check here https://www.mazda.com.au/recalls/ )
All was well but suddenly last week the same thing, extreme power loss, multiple warning lights, reviving really high then almost bunny hopping when changing gears (it’s an auto). It was getting stuck around 20kms at 5000 revs, wouldn’t let me
change gears in the manual mode to help it change gears, it would slowly increase speed but felt like it was going to stall. Decreasing speed it was also getting stuck on a gear and hopping to the next jolting us in the car.
It feels like the exact same issues before engine parts were replaced last year and carbon build up was cleaned out. The car is currently at mazda as unsafe to drive (we almost got cleaned up crossing an intersection as it would speed up) - $180/per hour! Still haven’t found the “issue”!
Also at wits end! There is a known fault with these engines, keen to know if you had a fix or underwent any recalls with the engine also?

Too many forums stating problems with the 2015 engines… enough is enough!
