Default Interior lighting question

I just purchased a 2014 GT with tech package a week ago (traded in a 2011 Escape Limited) and have a question about the interior lighting. I noticed that at night when the dashboard, control panel lights, etc. light up/glow that the places on the sticks for the windshield wipers and the headlights/fog lights have no illumination whatsoever. In my Escape, wherever there was visible white marking for some control, at night there would be a slight glow to the marking so you could easily locate what you were trying to adjust. On the drivers door panel, the only mark that shows at night is a slight orange glow for the drivers side window button. Are the dark control sticks on the steering column just a feature of the Mazda CX 5 for some reason, or do I have an electrical issue in those places? I couldn't find any info on this in the owner's manual. Thanks for any help someone can give me.
