horn sounds when lock doors, um, sometimes
Since I got my 2025 CX-5, the horn sounds loudly when I hit the key fob lock twice. Suddenly, the horn doesn't sound at all when I do that. I see on websites that SOMEWHERE this can be set, as well as the horn volume for locking. But I CAN'T FIND IT. The manual is of no use in this regard. HELP! Please don't tell me to look at the manual. Be specific.
To activate or deactivate the horn on the theft security system of the 2025 Mazda CX-5, follow these steps:
- To activate the horn: Press the request switch on any door or the lock button on the transmitter. The horn will activate until the driver's door or liftgate is unlocked with the transmitter or auxiliary key.
- To deactivate the horn: Press the request switch on a door or the lock button on the transmitter. The horn will stop until the driver's door or liftgate is unlocked.
If the battery goes dead while the theft-deterrent system is armed, the horn will activate and the hazard warning lights will flash when the battery is charged or replaced.
Request switch? I just have a key slot on the driver door. I assume I don't have a theft security system? But this doesn't answer my question. My point is that when I press the lock button on my transmitter, The car locks. When I press it again, immediately, the horn is supposed to sound. But now it doesn't. How do I change that setting? Also, can I not change the loudness of the horn when I do this? Once upon a time, I believe one could.
With both my 19 GT and 21 GTR, when I hit the lock button on the remote, the doors locked and a beep sounded. If I pressed it a second time after that (if, for example, I did not hear the beep so wanted to make sure the doors were locked) the horn would sound. I believe it would blow again and again if I pressed it a third and fourth time. I didn't set this up, it is just how the car worked.
I just copied this from the online 2025 CX-5 owners manual:
To lock the doors and the liftgate, press the lock button and the hazard warning lights will flash once.
(With the advanced keyless function)
A beep sound will be heard once.
To confirm that all doors and the liftgate have been locked, press the lock button again within 5 seconds. If they are closed and locked, the horn will sound.

Wow. This is hard. My point is that when I hit the lock button ONCE, the foors lock. I hear them lock, but I don't hear a beep. When I hit it a second time, the horn sounds. My problem is that now, when I do that, the horn does NOT sound. I believe there is a way to turn that horn notification on and off, but I can't find it.
Try replacing the FOB battery a bad one can cause issues like you are experiencing.
Wouldn't hurt to get the vehicle battery load tested either.
I know it is new, but I can tell you my FOB battery didn't last a year, and I only got 13 months out of my vehicle battery.
Meaning the battery likely wasn't able to achieve full load capability when I bought it.
We have no idea how long those batteries have been setting around before they are actually put in the FOB or the vehicle.

Agree with Lobstah. You aren't going to get an answer here for your issue. As far as I know you can't turn the beep and horn off or on in the settings. It could be a battery issue, or it could be a problem with your car. Take it in and have it looked at. You are under a full bumper to bumper warranty.
The vehicle "HORN" is part of an integrated none adjustable (steering wheel activation) SAFETY feature Federally mandated to have equipped on any production vehicles sold by auto manufactures approved dealerships in the US and Canada and possibly other countries?
And I believe (I personally and we don't in the service shop perform vehicle safety inspections) in many states and other countries it is part of vehicle registration inspections?

OK, I accept the fact that I can't manually set whether the horn sounds when I lock the doors, but I'm saying that it DID for several months, and suddenly it stopped. So it turned itself off. That's a little odd about the key fob battery. The key fob just sends a signal to the car. The car does the locking and the horn. That signal was being sent, becuase it did the locking. But the car itself suddenly decided it wasn't going to sound the horn.
This recent post says you CAN enable or disable the beep. https://www.bitauto.com/ask/100130626752/ But it doesn't work for me. It does say that different models do different things.
