Thanks for the reply. I went out and tried one more time and it finally dropped in. Much trickier on the passenger side then the drivers. Also pretty scary the first time you try to close the hood. They felt like they were not going to let the hood drop. It started to flex a bit and then finally moved.

I bought a cheap Ebay China unit, did the whole thing in about 15 minutes and all parts went in very easy.
I already have some Sokietech replacement rods from a previous vehicle that I will put on should/when the Ebay China rods fail.

I did the same, but they sent the kit for a different car the first time. I contacted them and they sent the correct one and didn't want the other one back. The struts are the same, only the end connectors that bolt onto the car are different, so I have a back up set of struts if the ones on the car die. I have the same ones on my MX5. Both sets have been working fine for about six years now.
I wish Mazda would just include those things from the factory. It would probably only cost a few bucks and add a minute or two to the production time lol

Be careful just because they "may" be the same extended and collapse size the internal pressure "may" be different which could dramatically affect their usage.
Good point, I had already checked that to be sure.
And to that point I would note the Ebay China units don't supply that "info" they just say they will or won't work for your vehicle.
LOL I am sure he did. But if Mazda is smart they check the forums and see what customers are complaining about. I thought the same thing last night as I was installing the struts. If I paid 130 bucks/set which was a "premium version" and I can find them on Amazon for under 35/set how much would it have cost Mazda to get them from a supplier they already use? Practically nothing and then they could just add 25 or 50 to the cost of the car which nobody would notice when they purchased the car, but they sure would when they open the hood.
