Headlight Restoration - 3M Scotchgard Clear Bra Paint Protection Film DIY
I have been restoring my headlights for a while using the spar varnish method but was tired of restoring them at least twice a year. Today I ended up wrapping them on 3M Scotchgard Clear Bra Paint Protection Film.
Steps:
1. 800 grit sandpaper (wet)
2. 1500 (wet)
3. 2000 (wet)
4. 3000 (wet)
5. Liquid compound
6. Polish
7. 3m film
Steps 1-5 are necessary only if your headlights are in really bad shape. Skip to steps 6-7 if headlights are in still clear. In my case I have an Odyssey and I had to do all those steps, on the CX-5 the passenger side had a few spider web cracks and I had to wet sand with 3000 grit softly then steps 5-7. The driver side was straight 6-7.
Installation was a ok, I had to use a bit of heat gun in some places but keep in mind this won't react to heat like window tinting does. Tints usually shrink, this bad boy on the other hand will get burn if heated for too long it would just stretch. It came out pretty good in my opinion. Let's see for how long it keeps the headlights in good shape.
