Smile First 500 mile tank

I have had my CX-5 since May and have 10,000 miles on it. A few weeks ago on a road trip I got 450 mlles on at tank at 75 MPH speeds.

Last week I filled it to the brim and drove mainly my commute of 21 miles each way at 60 MPH each day. Also put on a few city miles. Today when I filled up I had driven a total of 505 miles. The fuel display showed two bars left. I filled to the brim and got in 12.5 gal. That makes this tank average 40.4 MPG

Before this car I had a Jetta TDI diesel that got 43-45 MPG average each tank. I am thrilled to get 40 MPG average and a 500 mile cruising range on this car using regular gas! Go CX-5

Wow! That's impressive. I am only averaging 25.3 MPG so far (2000 Miles) and I am kinda disappointed. Tomorrow I am taking a 1000 mile road trip and will know for sure if I can get better.

Yours will get better. Best tips I can give you are pump up your tires to 40 PSI (they are rated for 45 max and still wear very evenly) and try some hypermiling techniques like coasting up to stop lights, drive conservatively. Don't weave in and out of traffic. Use cruise control whenever possible at any speed. The less you use your brakes the better you are driving for economy. Bonus: you brakes will last a lot longer!!! My last car had 113,000 on the original brakes when I sold it and they were still OK.
There begins to be a big mileage hit as you get over 65-70 MPH and wind resistance increases. Good luck and enjoy your CX-5

Impressive tank distance, I've never gone over 350 miles.

Best advise i can give for long tank distance is to fill up all the way to the brim. Ive noticed that when the pump clicks off I can still get in almost two more gallons if i try. On my current tank i went 170 miles and none of the bars dissappeared . I did just lose the top bar at 172 miles. I am hoping to get another 500 plus mile tank again. Just depends on how much stop and go driving i will have to do. Hopefully ot much. Good luck!

My follup tank yielded 538 miles and i still had one bar left. Put in just over 15 gallons so i guess the manufacturers rating of 14.9 gallons is a bit conservative.
Dont think it would go any farther than this though, i dont want to run dry if my last bar goes away. Looks like the bars are very accurate.
