Agree with everything except I recommend and prefer Castrol ATF for all Skyactiv transmissions . My oil several comparing analysis tends to agree with my choice

Blackstone Oil Labs

here is the funny thing… I will often use Fram oil filters on various engines and just did change my engine oil on the Mazda and used FRAM made is USA oil filter. Now if you get the joke you will a
so understand why I prefer Castrol (Better Product) trans max tax fluid over Mazda white label product.

The ID is probably the most important spec. I think Chinese washers are just as good as OE. I recently had a new car with the original Mazda drain plug washer leaking and after analysis found a defect in the sealing washer. Tightening torque is a very important part of replacing the washer.

So no issues mixing after Castrol with Mazda automatic transmission fluids? The Castrol ATF is much more accessible.

  • 24mm socket for drain
  • 23mm socket for fill
  • sometimes access is tight, might need short socket or even a closed socket wrench
  • drain bucket of course, dispose of properly
  • and a fluid transfer pump to pump fresh fluid in from the bottle is helpful. Can't really pour a bottle in.
Anything else gang?

Default Fluid changed

Follow up to my 2020 CX-5, 2.5L, non-turbo, AWD:
Changed my rear diff and front transfer case fluids today. Quick, easy, enjoyable job. About 45 minutes. Rear was very easy as did not have to raise vehicle or remove any splash guards and annoying push clips.

Took this pic of the fluid to share. Change done at 84,700 km = 53K miles. First change I believe as I just purchased the vehicle in April.

#1: used front fluid
#2: sample of fresh 75W85 Redline hypoid fluid
#3: used rear fluid

Observations:
  • used fluid appeared quite "cooked", when pouring it appeared as darkened foggy pale orange. Glad I changed it. I plan to change every 30K miles = 48K kms going forward.
  • Only rear drain plug had a magnet. Some, not much metallic residue which was nice to see.
  • All plugs loosened easily.
  • Rear fill washer was missing. (yes, I replaced all 4 with new washers)
