Default Cylinder deactivation

Advice needed. I notice on some new CX5's, they offer the cars with or without cylinder deactivation. I know that without, means one less thing to go wrong, but aren't these engines long lived, with the normal cylinder deactivation, operating? I just spoke to an old friend, who has a 2017 CX9, with Turbo, that he says is running like new with over 3000,000 KM on it. (185,000 miles)

My recollection is that the Turbo doesn't have cylinder deactivation.

I think I've figured it out, at least in Canada. They have stopped putting in cylinder deactivation, and instead, are installing a stop/start system. Great, just great!

The Turbo models shouldn't have either cylinder deactivation nor stop/start. Cylinder deactivation was put on the 2018+ naturally aspirated models and stop/start on the 2024 naturally aspirated model.

Can the stop/start be permanently disconnected?

The video is the best thing I could find on it. Seems very simple to do.

In the USA they list all 2024 non-turbo cx-5 as having i-stop and cylinder deactivation. Then in the fine print they say some models may not be equipped with i-stop and cylinder deactivation. My dealer said it will be listed as "omit CDA and i-stop" on the sticker and was related to an module shortage. I have yet to find one in the wild because I'd buy it to trade my turbo 2020.

My son bought a new 2024 GS, today, without an I-stop. Happy to say. The eighth digit in serial number is an "L" Thanks for your help. Looking at your trims, I am guessing that Mazda uses different names, in Canada. Base model is a GX, next up, is GS, and then GT, with or without Turbo. The.GT's all seem to have both CD and i-stop. Material shortages is making sense.

Yup there's been people who were fortunate to not have either in their cars, or at least without i-stop which is what I really dislike. The cylinder deactivation on these cars is great so I could live with that.

I just bought a new 2024 NA 2.5 in the USA 5 days ago and it doesn’t have cylinder deactivation or the stop/start system. I thought all the new cars had the stop/ start system? Am I missing something? Thx in advance.
