If it is under warranty and your dealer is changing the oil than basically you are covered.

As for which is better none, semi or full synthetic, in a perfect world and you are driving in a bubble then fully synthetic. In the real world in a DAILEY driver you are not likely EVER top notice a difference. And you engine will still go 100-300k without any problems because of your choice of oil as long as you follow a few guidelines.

This has already been debunked by the thousands of oil samples done as will millions of miles of oil testing.
If semi synthetic was substantially less expensive than full I would use it on most all my engines.

Keep in mind unless the word REQUIRED is in the recommendation for engine oil from the Auto manufacture you can use any oil you choose as long as it complies with the basic SAE information.

ASE
In the shop we service minimum 6 vehicles a week for oil and filter service, and we use Shell Bulk semi synthetic oil.
At least 1 of my dealerships I do business with (BMW) I know of in their service department does as well unless their customers specifically request fully synthetic oil

Thanks guys! It has been a terrific trouble free car in the 19 months I've had it. With the turbo, it's kinda like the Japanese BMW!

The CX-5 was an off-lease purchase here in the USA and is a Grand Touring Reserve trim that includes the 2.5 liter turbocharged engine. I did not ask the salesperson who was giving me the final send off what type oil is best or required for the car. He just affirmed that whatever you do, don’t use full synthetic oil in this turbo engine. Unfortunately he wasn’t talking to me at the time or I was have questioned him further. He was going over the car with my daughter and granddaughter, for whom the car was being purchased.

If it is not in writing then it didn't happen? I am also surprised that a SALESMAN not qualified in any service aspects would even tell you that in the first place? And if he did I would have either asked where he got that information or researched it if anything in the owners manual and service schedule information. Or at least asked someone in the service NOT SALES department?

Any other turbo owners have a similar experience and what oil are u currently using? I have been running Mobil1 synthetic in all my vehicles for over 10 years although all engines were NA.
thanks

My dealer said the same. My dealer are idiots. They do not even offer a full synthetic because some idiot mechanic thinks full synthetic destroys turbo seals. There doing a free complimentary oil change. They are not going to use synthetic. Then the manager told me how full synthetic ruins seals. That is a old school train of thought from the 70's. Modern synthetic oils have special seal conditioners added to alleviate these old fears

I use 100% synthetic 5w-30 in my 2021 cx-5 turbo. The turbo engine especially needs synthetic because of the higher temperatures in the turbo.
absolutely 👍

the member you quoted obviously has never looked at motor oil specifications and break down information that is available. And also really knows little about Turbocharged Engines . lol

I am an Amzoil dealer so I as such can post this information

https://mcgeerf.tripod.com/americans...coil/id17.html

and

https://www.oil-tech.com/motoroil-comparison.php

and some more epically collected information not Amzoil

i was planning on having the dealer do my 36 month service on my 2022 with 25k miles but i guess there is absolutely no reason to bring it in if they don't even use synthetic. I've done 5K synthetic oil intervals so why wld i interupt that.

The thing is, you don't know this until you ask. My dealer has used full synthetic 5W30 every time.
