CX-5 - Gear selector cable wear & tear
For what, a couple of cables, sensors, fittings/seals, and a few other pieces, correct tensioning I'm assuming ...?
Doesn't surprise me that digging around under there would be several hundred shekels.
My reason for asking is that my own CX-5 will soon be approaching 100Kmi and this sort of thing will be one of the items I add to the list for checking, to keep ahead of the maintenance curve.

Mazda didn't believe me when I rang to tell them it had happened a second time. They told me to bring it in to see if it was something else because it's something they almost never see. He said if I was unlucky enough to have it happen once, it was extremely unlikely it would have happened a second time. They confirmed it today though.
I have a 2017 CX-5 and this happen to me last week only 48k on the clock
SNAP, my 2017 CX5 with 48.5k miles on the clock snapped a gear cable last week, stuck in 5th gear at the time, managed to get it the 10 miles home with only having to stop once and dropped it off at my independent garage around the corner from me. £190 + vat for the replacement cables from Mazda, labour on top. Spoken to Mazda and I have to do a retrospective claim with Mazda UK, will likely re-imburse 50-60% of the repair cost. Not something I wish to repeat regularly!!
MY cable snapped this week 60,500 miles - I was doing 50mph on a major A road (in UK) and gears slipped out - revvs went up to 6000RPM - had to coast to safe place in 6th gear - bill from dealership = £600
Are the problems in this thread on CX-5s with manual or automatic trans?
I read this article on shift cables no longer available and wondered if this same cable is used in my 2015 CX-5 with 2.0L and 6spd manual that is mentioned in the article on the Mazda 3s.

Hi PaulB15 ....yes I had the same thing , I had fixed the issue with this switch that is in the transmission shifter housing that prevent the accessories to stay on when you turn off the switch and I thought that it was related ...turned out it was not ...the only thing I had to do was to "recalibrate" the shifter transmsion cable " link " I guess I had been too forcefull probably on the shifter or maybe it desasdjusted by itself ...who knows I don't know if it's common ....but it cost me 0 $$$$ just had to disasembled the shifter housing ( wich is not that complicated ) and reset the link itself ...now everything run smooth ..though I found that a bit that to be a bit too fragile of a system ...in a nutshell transmission is having a cable that is linked ( obviously ) to the shifter and it's a very cheap attachemnent from the cable to the shifter ...sometimes they get disasdjusted ( they slipp) ..causing the transmission to read in between speed or wrong for its position ( in my case I had at one point nothing on the dashboard where usually it says D R N 1 ...ect ) ....does my explanation make sense ?
I posted a note a few days ago and asked if we were talking about auto or manual transmissions. No one replied to my post, but after noticing some members say that they were "stuck in 5th gear" (or something similar), I figured that we must be talking about manual transmissions. But now you post a comment that includes "D R N 1 ...", which is clearly automagic transmissions.
So I'll ask again: are we talking about autos? manuals? both?
My concern is that the manual transmission owners may find out in the future that the shift linkage cables are no longer available as has happened with Mazda 3 owners.
Sorry about that Bob ..maybe I just assumed ...cause it just had happened to me and I was pretty " happy/mad " depending of if I would have called the towtruck and get the car to the garage (wich I almost did) with the $$$$ ending that would have been obvious ...or stop ...breath ...and get my tools ...wich I did
