CX-5 allows you to drive even when doors are not closed
Y’all know that there is a whole world outside the US, right? The OP lives in Australia, where regulations and liabilities and car models are different than in the US. I’m not familiar with Aussie vehicular regulations, perhaps an open door ignition interlock is normal there. I don’t think he needs a lecture from foreigners telling him how they think things should be there. The Maxx is a specific CX trim level down-under, like Select or Signature are in the US.
Never seen or herd of any car not driving with a door open or ajar. I've lived in New Zealand and now Australia.
Cars built for RHD countries do have different design features for the driving, but I heard back from my friend down under and he doesn't know of any reason the door open would stop you driving.
RHD markets do have things that are different, besides the drivers location. Headlights dip to the left when you go to low beam, wipers go to the right on many, but not all. Things like that.

Hi Guys, I have just bought a cx-5 2021 Maxx and one of the things I found out is that the vehicle allows you to drive even when doors are not closed property and I did a quick check in the user manual but couldn’t find anything that can be done to fix this.. not sure if this is a bug ?
May be a config thing that I need to tweak for audio warning.. But I do see a dashboard warning so I’ll keep that in mind to check before moving.. thanks for the info!

For a running vehicle I could find no warning sound for "open door/lift gate" for the Mazda CX-5 no matter which country it is sold in.
There is a warning light on the instrument panel but there is no sound.
Dash light will show if doors or liftgate are not closed but it does not stop the vehicle from moving.
Only warning sound exception is the following:
Request Switch Inoperable Warning Beep (With the advanced keyless function)
If the request switch is pressed under the following conditions while the key is being carried, a beep will be heard for about 2 seconds to indicate that the front doors and the liftgate cannot be locked.
• A door or the liftgate is open (door ajar included).
• The ignition has not been switched to off.

I didn't think any car would keep you from driving with the door open. Friends overseas didn't know of any either. Well, I found one that you can't drive with the door open. There is an electric truck called the Rivian. One own did a video about it. One thing he didn't like was when he backs a trailer up, he likes to open the door to watch so he doesn't hit anything. The Rivian won't let you open the door and move. Period. So, Mazda doesn't do it, but there are some that will.
