I went to my dealer Friday morning, Werner Mazda In NH. They took a picture, sent it to Mazda and called be back in the afternoon telling me Mazda had approved a replacement. Werner will be doing it this week. They are waiting for the windshield to arrive at the dealership.

Well, I called the dealer when the windshield cracked. I recorded the call. I asked if he is aware or if Mazda notified the dealership about those cracks, the dealer said no and advised me to take it to a auto glass repair shop.

I took pictures and called the glass company, and it cost me $463.71.

I can either wait for class action suit or go to the dealer and ask them to submit my case to Mazda or send all my records to Mazda's senior management and hope for the best. Sure I can sue, but my lawyer charges $400/hr!!!

Mazda should issue a bulletin to their dealerships letting them know about the defect and instructing the dealerships to advise the customers to bring their cars in.

Default Windshield Insurance???

Reading these posts about cracked windshield...How about getting a 'road hazard' type of insurance for that? My friend who owns a CX5 bought one for about $500 at the dealership when she bought the car. The deductible is $50. Her windshield is holding up fine though (after 20K miles).

@ ILoveToyCars,
You may want to have your friend read the coverage of her "road hazard" coverage. I have it for the CX-5. It came in three varieties from our dealer. When I asked the dealer, he said the policy doesn't cover cracked windshield.

So, I pulled the policy and I also looked at the other two varieties. NONE of them cover the "cracked windshield".

I just hope no one gets injured if the windshield crack while driving at high speed on the highway.

Now, if her "road Hazard" insurance covers the windshield crack, then kindly ask her to share the name of the insurance company. I would like to contact them for our other cars.

I got some more facts about the insurance my friend got for her car. It's actually a dealer sold 3rd party coverage that's quite expensive, not the $500 she once said...more like $2+ grand. It covers a bunch of things...windshield, windows, tires, dings and dents, chair fabric, etc. She's a single lady that makes good money and doesn't know about cars. It buys her some level of comfort so that's worth it in her opinion. I will not touch it now knowing how much it costs.

Default I did it!

I just bought a '15 CX5 Touring base in Meteor Gray for $22,638 before tax and license. This was in Westminster CA at 6 p.m. right before their closing time. The financing guy wanted to sell me a 7 year 100K miles extended coverage for $1,900. I declined that. Then he asked me about a 3rd party package (from Karr Guard Plus) that included roadside assistance, valet (replacement car rental), windshield replacement/repair, dent repair, key replacement, for 5 years (with no mileage limit and no deductible). The asking price was $795. I countered $500 and he accepted it. If not because of what I have been reading here about the windshield issues, I would not have done it. I think it's worth the price when each windshield replacement cost is $600+. And my insurance deductible is also high. I think I did pretty good.
