I bought a 2020 Signature in May. Yesterday, with 986 miles on it, the transmission went out. They are going to replace it, but man ,really ?!?

Better now than after the warranty runs out. The transfer case on my 1978 Bronco went out about 200 miles after the warranty expired and Ford told me that was too bad.

Well, that's unfortunate, but at least they seem to be on it and you will be good to go.

I really hate when people post responses like that without the details "REALLY"!
How about post up the service write up and diagnostic report? At 1000 miles something BROKE and I would likely say not common by any means with these transmission which are very well designed to go 100K trouble free miles! So before the really... next time more information!

Wow, talk about poor customer service! You contacted the dealership or Ford USA Corporate?

On my 2006 Subaru, at about 30-40k I'm forgetting exactly the issue, but a major engine issue came up and Corporate split the cost..

As I recall, I went through both, but that was 40 years ago and I don't recall the details. I thought about filing suit (I am a retired attorney), but I found an almost new transfer case on a totaled Bronco and got it for a song, so it wasn't worth it to try to push a settlement since the vehicle was definitely out of warranty. What bothered me most was the transfer case popped out of 4Low into neutral while I was descending the side of a mountain in Arizona. Things were really exciting there for a few minutes until I could get the vehicle stopped using only the brakes on an unpaved surface with a very steep grade. 4High still worked, so I was able to continue the descent in high range using the granny first gear, but I still had to use the brakes a lot more than I would have liked.

As an added aside in reference to magnetic drain plugs:
Mazda used 14MMX1.50MM
Many Asian vehicles also use that thread size.
I would caution about getting one of those LONG ones as they
may have some interference with engine internals.

Costs vary greatly. $7-$40(?).

My 2¢
