Considering CX5 to replace Toyota Matrix
#13
IMHO the OP asked a legitimate question about buying a CX-5 to replace a Matrix. He did not write anything (other than a username) about a company, or try to bring up a product he sells. He also apologized immediately when questioned by a member and keeps responding to other posts which bolsters his legitimacy to me. I didn't even notice the username. Didn't make me want to investigate him at all considering the question he posed.
My suggestion to the OP as far as the CX-5? Drive it and all its competitors. See which one fits the bill. Mazda has several other cars which you may like as well (CX-30, CX-50 and the Mazda 3 hatchback).

I do plan to do some test driving, but I'd much rather hear from real people rather than car sales people... not that there's anything wrong with them, but they have an obvious bias and I know I'll learn more here. Thanks for all your comments.

I'm glad to change my username, but I can't seem to find a way to contact moderator. If one would PM me with instructions, I'm glad to follow them.

My intent was not to scare you off only watching out for the forum.

I removed most all my responses regarding your user name. I hope it helps so more members will respond to your query.

I'm retired, so I pay very little interest in businesses now, unless they are one of the few I still use.
That would be "Maniac" of which if you've lived here long, you'll know there are many
As I said, if you want something in the cargo area size of the Matrix the CX-30 would be your choice.
As chickdr19 replied, try out all the models and don't bypass all the other brands as well.
Hyundai makes some nice vehicles as well and they offer a 10-year warranty.
I previously owned a Hyundai Sante Fe and enjoyed it immensely; my only negative for my year & model was the door arm rest was too low for me.

My experience
I have a 2020 CX-5 Sport, bought in early 2021. I started in Honolulu but shipped it to the mainland and drove many miles across country (CA, NV, AZ, TX, LA, AL, and FL), and back. A lot of miles. Country roads. National parks. Interstates. Great weather. Downpours. Plains. Mountains. Rough roads. You get it (over 15k miles in 6 months, total mileage about 35k now).
Just love the car. Comfortable. Was able to carry 3 full size suitcases, multiple boxes and other items. Car always felt stable and handled nicely. I found good mpg at higher speeds than I expected (but pretty flat), over many miles. Like 28.5 when driving 70-75.
Great handling and fun to drive. Good driving feedback and safety features. Reliable as heck. Only maintenance was new tires, battery and regular services. I did install new Michellins because I like their ride a little better than the original tires, but that’s just my preference.
Yes, screen interface can sometimes be a little cloogy but not too bad. Synced well with multiple phones.
Have owned a number of cars (large SUV’s and sports cars), and this is my favorite combination of utility, reliability, fuel efficiency, and driving fun. After more than 2 years I’d happily buy it again. Just my unsolicited two cents. Sorry. Don’t mean to sound like a commercial, but I’ve been driving for a long time and am very pleased with this car.
