Can I disable the beeping when driving with hatch open
I want to pick up a patio set at Costco. The table will not fit and I will have to drive home with hatch open a bit. Yes I will open windows to ensure I do not get poisoned by CO2. When driving with hatch open the warning beep goes off continuously. Is there any way to disable that? I have a 2023 Mazda CX-5.
I tried flipping the locking mechanism to lock position with a flat head screwdriver. I thought that would fool the CX-5 into thinking the hatch was closed. The warning light was off but the beeping still persisted.
I hope there is a fix as I do not know if I can tolerate that beeping for the whole drive home. Also because it comes from hatch area everyone around me hears it as well.
Thanks

You can physically unhook the beeper, but I can assure you to do so is more of a PITA than listening to the sound.
I would also point out driving with a liftgate or hatch open is not good for it nor matter how well you secure it.
It can cost more to fix than it would to rent a U-Haul pick-up starting at $19.95 per day.
Or you could just ask COSTCO what their delivery fee is.

Well it is disappointing there is no way to disable this. Some technologies in newer cars are a real pain. I used to be able to carry long lumber in my old hatch backs with hatch open. Now with this SUV I have to put up with rapid & loud warning beep all the way home. What a pain.
I wrote a review of my CX-5 in another forum a while back. In that review I brought up a number of things in which this CX-5 act like a nanny state controlling things I do not want controlled.

Ended up using my friends Lexus RX350. Cargo area was wider so items fit without having to unbox (big plus). Also we flipped latch lock to closed position and was able to drive with hatch open and no beeping.
If you don't believe me you aren't paying attention

Updated as Per Cali: I can only "factually" attribute what I posted above to the US.
Others can apply their "facts" from their areas of the world.
After all, at some point enough people put plastic bags on their heads and ate enough silica dry packs to require them having to be labeled not a toy and do not eat
