Most are obtained with professional experienced drivers. I know this based on an invite from BMW/MINI to the Oakland CA AREANA parking lot to be a test driver for a magazine showing testing results of various attributes like 60mph to 0 mph times.

Cool

…The 70-0 distance test is just what Car and Driver uses as a standard breaking test. Consumer Reports uses 60-0 in their reports.
Brake testing is hardly consistent, even with the same publication. A few variables not always accounted for - or simply ignored:

- the actual road surface roughness/friction
- the level of the road surface, uphill or downhill
- the temperature of the road surface
- the temperature of the brakes themselves; how many warmup tests
- the actual braking modulation - full antilock function or pump the brakes
- the condition of the tire tread - age/mileage
- the air pressure of the tires
- different weight in vehicles - gas in tank, test equipment etc.
- accuracy of the beginning speed and location of the distance measurement - GPS, 5th wheel or guess

Each of the above will affect the results, some in a very minor way but they can and do add up. Think about all the different 0-60 times reported by different sources for the same vehicle. I wouldn’t use a typically flawed test as a reason not to buy a new vehicle.
