Default Break Fluid Topup - CX5 2017

Hi all,

Need an advice on break fluid. Since the fluid was a bit low, today I topped it up. It seems like it’s very close to the MAX line but below it. I saw a couple of posts about overfilling may cause serious issues. Is this would be fine or do I need to drain some oil? I’m worried if this will do something bad to my breaks or the fluid reservoir.

Thanks.

You are technically not full. The max line would be considered full, but the level you filled it is fine. Overfilling would only possibly cause the brake fluid to spill out of the reservoir causing a mess and the brake fluid could possibly damage parts .

Next time use a long tube like a clear aquarium hose and remove as much of the brake fluid from the reservoir as you can. Then refill with new fluid. While the Myth dilution theory really is nonsense what is seldom mentioned is by changing the reservoir fluid at regular servicing will keep the plastic from discoloring making it harder to judge the oils condition.

oh and it’s time to service your battery cables. The protectant you have is great but the terminals still need a good cleaning every now and again.

Thanks for the reply. Just one more question. Since I topped it up, when I’m changing my break pads, do I need to take some fluid out? Because the ware of the pads can cause the fluid level drop.

And yes, you are correct, I did clean the battery terminals few months back and need to clean again.

Yes.

Don’t forget have your battery load tested. There are shops and many auto parts store that will do this for free.
